Fruits

Many of the fruits found for sale in our standard grocery stores are riddled with pesticides, which are harmful, deadly chemicals that are toxic not only to the insects they are meant to kill, but quite potentially dangerous to those consuming the fruits, as well. In addition to the gallons of insecticides, which are sprayed on fruit crops beginning when the plants are merely seedlings, the seeds themselves have been modified on a genetic level to be less susceptible to certain disease, and more “hardy” and able to grow in a multitude of conditions. These genetically-modified, or “GMO” seeds are prevalent throughout the industry to the point that they are now considered standard. Even the fruits for sale at your local farmers’ market may very likely be grown from a GMO seed unless specifically stated otherwise. Looks for terms such as “heritage” to denote that a seed or crop is the purest, least modified form available. All seeds we recommend here at Growing Organic are non-GMO or heritage crops, only.
